About Trevellas

Lovely coastal region lying at the mouth of Trevellas Coombe, a steep valley with stone built tall chimneys and the shell of a derelict engine house still standing as evocative reminders of the old Blue Hills Tin Mine, built in the 1830's. At this time the whole valley was awash with mining activity. The demise of the industry in the 19th and 20th century left the landscape to return to nature, and the cliffs with their scattered rocks are now covered with yellow gorse and bracken.

These days, this pretty, scenic region is the haunt of holidaymakers. Nearby, Trevaunce Cove, a sandy bay with surf tinged rollers attracts the surfing fraternity, and offshore, lashed by the fury of Atlantic rollers, is the savage attraction of Bawden Rocks.

Trevallas lies between St.Agnes Head and Cligga Head, both offer stunning sea and coastal views. At St Agnes Head a path takes walkers to the summit of a 629 ft hill where in the 16th century a beacon was lit to warn of the approach of the Spanish Armada.
