This lovely country park occupies a magical landscape close to the historic market town of Brampton. The icy waters forming the epicentre of the park is glacial in origin and was probably formed some 10,000 years ago, it is fed by streams flowing under the surrounding countryside. The lake extends for some 65 acres, it is ringed mainly by woodland and pleasant open spaces which are ideal for a lakeside picnic.
One of the charms of this idyllic spot is the distinct lack of buildings. Just a few huddle together these offer visitor facilities such as the Boathouse Tea Room with is comfortable furnishings and superb winter log fires, a gift shop, and a shop for cycle hire. There is a small caravan and camping site and a permanent orienteering course is laid out around the park. Apart from this there are lovely waymarked woodland walks, paths taking you through stunning countryside, and for the energetic there is the opportunity for windsurfing, sailing and canoeing, for visitors who do not have their own boat there are rowing boats available for hire. The tarn offers a peaceful spot from which to cast a rod, either from the shore-line or boat.
Throughout the year the park arranges a number of lively visitor event days, these offer fun for all ages and range from activity days to craft fairs.
Talkin Tarn is a wonderful relaxing place where at times there is little to be heard but the sweet sound of song birds or the rustle of tiny creatures as they scurry amongst the woods for food.
