Glad you found it of interest Rod; there is more but it wandered too far off your original question about the lighthouse. I think too it was Start Point---Start coming from the Anglo-Saxon Stoert meaning, tail, like the Redstart bird name refers to its' tail too.

The cove Florence mentioned swimming at might be Ravens Cove nearby, used by naturists to this day. Was Florence's middle name Amelia which might be her mother's name.  The Victorians loved reusing names in the family in one way or another. Rosina Pattison had been born on the Isle of Wight and died in Cornwall aged only 20 or so.

You mentioned Rod, the Canadian connections but I also think you have  strong Australian connections too.

But, this doesn't have much to do with lighthouses.  Smile

It's interesting to note that John/Richard's parents were at Coast Station, Point, Brading, Isle of Wight in 1851 (where Henry & Rosina were born), and Richard Thomas was the youngest of 8 children.  I did find a birth for a John James Pattison Jun 1853 Liskeard.
