About Princetown

Princetown is the highest village within the Dartmoor National Park, some call it the bleakest centre of the moors which is probably largely due to the town being the home of notorious Dartmoor Prison. None-the-less, Princetown is surrounded by many picturesque villages with a whole host of beauty spots which form part of the world famous scenery of Dartmoor, known for its rocky outcrops, sparkling rivers, woodlands and remote vast acres of open moorland.

Princetown offers shops, inns, leisure facilities, good hotels and friendly bed and breakfast homes. At the edge of the town it is not unusual to see some of the gentle wild ponies that roam freely in the sun-kissed glades of the near-by Dartmoor Forest.
