About Tyneham

Known as the Ghost village of Dorset, the village of Tyneham was requisitioned by the War Office during 1943, with all 225 residents having to leave their homes. The army never gave it back and over the years much of the village was lost to the ravages of time. Today, the church and school are all that remain, and both offer a fascinating look at the history of the village and surrounding area. If you plan a visit, please be aware that the area is still an army training ground and therefore only open to the public at certain times of the year.
