About Jaywick

This holiday resort is a hive of activity during the summer months, it offers every possible holiday amenity and entertainment. It has a lovely sandy beach, ideal for families with young children and lying between here and Clacton-on-Sea there is a golf course.

Visitors will find gardens, pleasant green areas, streams with a flotilla of ducks for children to feed, and plenty in the way of cricket and football pitches.

Much of Jaywick was built during the early part of the 20th century when Mr. Frank Stedman, a business man, bought the existing marshland to turn into a holiday resort. He built a main road to Clacton, and then proceeded to fill the landscape with holiday chalets and large estates. The main road through the town known as the Broadway was built by Stedman, but the large bus terminal built to bring in tourists is no longer there.

This is a region with plenty of caravan and chalet parks, there is no shortage of shops, pubs, cafe's or restaurants. The streets are alive with amusement arcades, but it is the beach that remains the focal point, this is bounded on one side by Clacton-on-Sea and in the opposite direction lies picturesque Colne Point at the mouth of the River Colne.
