About Hambledon

This lovely red-brick village was the early home of cricket. A club was founded here in 1760 when the laws governing the game were laid down.

The village has attractive houses, some with timber-framing, a lovely old church of 13th-century origins which has many relics from its long illustrious past, and there is a wonderful coaching house of the 18th-century where the cricket club held annual dinners. There is a Vineyard on Windmill Down and Bury Lodge, to the south, has the remains of a Roman villa. On various weekend throughout the year some of the private houses throw their gardens open to the public for charitable causes.

A pretty place, with much to see and admire, its close proximity to the coast opens up a wealth of opportunities and adds to its charm as a base for exploring Hampshire and the Rother Valley.
