About Havant

Interestingly, this town provided the Parchment on which the treaty of Versailles was written in 1919. Havant had a parchment making industry until well into the mid-twentieth century when it fell into decline. Havant has been a major junction since roman times and the remains of a roman villa were discovered close to the town in 1928. Always a prosperous area, these days, the waters around Havant are thronged with colourful sailing and pleasure boats. Lying as it does, in close proximity to both Southampton and Portsmouth, makes Havant an ideal centre for sailing and the manufacture of sailing craft.
