The Crooked House of Canterbury, otherwise known as Sir John Boys house, is an eye-catching feature of Palace Street, and is often cited as being the most photographed building in Canterbury.
How it got its unusual lean nobody knows for sure, though one story that sounds most feasible is that there was an internal chimney slippage which they tried to rectify, only to cause the whole building to skew sideways even further, leading to the eventual erection of an internal metal frame to stop the building collapsing.
The timber-framed building dates from the 17th century and has a strong association with Sir John Boys who was said to have lived there, though this claim has recently been dismissed after they discovered it was built 5 years after his death.
The building is currently a charity book shop so its doors are usually open to the public for you to have a look inside.
