a Garden or Park in the town of Ide Hill, in the county of Kent

About Emmetts Garden

This must be the most perfectly positioned of all the gardens in the care of the National Trust. It occupies a majestic hill-top setting giving the visitor unrivalled views over a wonderful Kentish landscape, it is hardly surprising to find that it featured in the 1985 film "A Room With a View" for the views in every direction are simply breathtaking.

Initially the garden was laid out in the 19th century, it has an abundance of flowers, rare shrubs and exotic plants from all around the world.

Every season brings colourful interest right from the early days of spring with its bright daffodils, through to later spring when the ground is covered with bluebells, to the sweetly scented rose of summer and on to glorious autumn with its rich orange, reds and gold's.

The garden has a clever, totally un-contrived look of timeless charm. The inclusion of a rock garden following the original plans is a fresh delight for visitors this season.

A lovely hill-top tea-garden gives visitors a pleasant place to relax, soak up the harmonious atmosphere and enjoy the views.
