This charming little town situated at the edge of the North Downs is famed for its association with General Wolfe of Quebec, and the greatest Englishman of the last century, if not of all times, Sir Winston Churchill. Both these great men are commemorated by statues on the green. Sir Winston Churchill, spent the last 40-years of his life at nearby Chartwell, he bought it for its magnificent views over the Weald of Kent to Sussex. Chartwell was his home and the place from which he drew his inspiration from 1924 until the end of his life. Chartwell is now a National Trust property and many of the rooms are arranged much as they were in his lifetime. Numbered among the items on display are Sir Winston's Nobel Prize and many of his paintings.

Close to Chartwell is Quebec House, the boyhood home of General Wolfe. Many treasures belonging to this fine English warrior are preserved inside the house, which is well worth seeing.

The Weald of Kent is a delightful place to visit at any time, it has a landscape littered with Oast-houses. These attractive buildings were once used for drying hops but these days many have been restored and are in use as weekend cottages. There are many pleasant, peaceful little towns and villages with lazy cattle and playful lambs grazing in quiet meadows. You could do no better than tour this lovely area for within a distance of less than 50 miles you will find no less than 12 of England's finest Historic Homes.
Much of England's history is steeped in these parts; from the 13th-century Hever Castle, home of the Boleyns, whose daughter Anne married Henry VIII to the home of the man to whom our island race owes it's freedom, Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill.
