About Blacko

That the village of Blacko was a winner in the Best Kept Lancashire Village competition in 2002 is not at all surprising, for not only is it a pretty village showing well its true Lancastrian roots in its clusters of attractive stone cottages, but it is blest by its lovely position in the shadow of Pendle Hill.

Black is surrounded by fine countryside, it is overlooked by a hill bearing a tower of 1890. This is known locally as Stansfield's Tower, it was built by Jonathon Stansfield, a local grocer who wanted to indulge himself with a property giving him fine view Ribblesdale. His rough cast tower achieved this in full measure.

The area is famous for its scenic views, it offers walkers some pretty picnic spots. The village is close to Colne where there is a museum telling of the history and heritage of the region. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal is within easy reach, so is Bancroft Mill an attraction near Salterforth and The Yorkshire Dales Lead Mining Museum lies close to Kelbrooke.

Visitors to Blacko will find the usual village amenities including stores and an inn. For a larger selection of shops there is Barrowford, Colne or Clitheroe.
