This delightful village tucked away in the far north of the county is thought to have been mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086. It is a treasure-trove of picturesque stone-built houses and cottages, all fine examples of traditional architecture, typical of the region.

An early Meeting House is evocative of the 17th-century when George Fox (1624-1691) founded the Quaker movement. He came to Lancashire to preach in 1652. His visits resulted in a strong Quaker movement in Yealand Conyers and surrounding districts. The Meeting House and its burial ground remain in constant use to this day. Another interesting building is the atmospheric, ivy clad, New Inn built during the 1600's. It has lovely oak beams and a large open fire-place, local legend tells us that the inn is supposedly haunted!

The RSPB Leighton Moss Nature Reserve is within easy reach. This is the largest remaining reedbed in north-west England, it attracts a wonderful range of wildlife including rare birds, roe and red deer. There is a visitors centre with a fascinating range of displays and both the long and short nature trails are quite beautiful as well as being lively and informative for all visitors. Also close to Yealand Conyers is Leighton Hall, with its romantic confection of gables and turrets, which was home to the famous Gillow furniture making family. The hall, built around 1760 is set in around 80 acres of stunning English parkland and perfectly reflects the artistry of Richard Gillow, who bought the estate in 1826.

This lovely village makes a pleasant day out or is ideal as a touring centre from which to explore moors and coast. It is rich in history, with churches, romantic ruins, castles and stately homes. Yealand Conyers is in the midst of an area of outstanding natural beauty with eye catching views in every direction.
