Comprising of 850 acres of land with roaming deer, Bradgate Park is Leicestershire's largest and most popular country park.
The park is part of the 399.3 hectare Bradgate Park and Cropston Reservoir Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which has been designated under both biological and geological criteria.
In the park you will also find Bradgate House, which was the birthplace of the 9 day queen of England, Lady Jane Grey, and Old John Tower, a famous landmark that sits on top of the highest hill in the park, offerign spectacular views. The tower was built by the Greys in 1784, and is believed to be a memorial to John, an estate worker who died in a bonfire accident during celebrations of the 21st birthday of the future sixth Earl of Stamford.
The park is open from dawn until dusk all year round. It is within easy cycling distance from the centre of Leicester, there are buses that stop at its entrance, and there are pay car parks at the Hallgates entrance, Newtown Linford and Hunts Hill (at the top of the park near Old John).
