About Nettleham

This is a most delightful Lincolnshire village with dreamy stone cottages, a picturesque village green, and a sparkling beck around which well fed ducks and moorhens colonise. It is a place where from the moment you see the colourful village sign on the green, you know you are somewhere special.

Nettleham is an ancient settlement, probably dating from the Bronze-Age or before. The village green and the parish church are the main focus of village life. On the green two large Horse Chestnut Trees offer a shaded area for visitors to sit a while, admire and soak up the lovely rural charm of the place.

Adjoining the church at the heart of the village is access to Vicars Wood, an environmentally managed woodland providing cover for a rich variety of wildlife habitation and a pleasant spot for birdwatching, or to simply enjoy a quiet daytime stroll.

Muslanne Park with its pavilion offers the residents of the village plenty of sporting opportunities. Football, Tennis and Cricket feature in the sporting calendar, whilst next door is an unusual sporting feature imported from France - a Boules rink.

There is a lovely children's play area sited on the Bill Bailey Memorial Field. The field was in the gift of Mrs. and Miss Jackson who presented it to the village in 1946. It serves as a memorial for William Bailey, father of Mrs. Bailey and for William Deburier, the fiancé of Miss Jackson, who lost his life over Hamburg 4 days before their wedding day. The local parish council maintain the field as a memorial to all those living in the village who lost their lives in World War II.

Nettleham is well served with amenities, it has food stores, a paper shop, hairdressers, a branch of the Halifax, fish and chips, and four local inns. It also has a few businesses, mainly to do with technology.

Leafy lanes are the keynote round here, along them you will find a wealth of flourishing wild plants and bushes, pass the odd rider out exercising his horse, or nod to a cyclist out enjoying the suburb scenery.

The village also has a romantic ruin - The Bishops Palace where the King of England stayed when on a visit to Lincoln. In days of yonder Lincoln was the capital city of England, and it is believed it was while staying at the palace that the King decided the eldest son of the monarch would have the title Prince of Wales.

If pubs are not for you - why not try the tea shop on the village green.

Nettleham lies in a cleft in hills on top of the Lincoln Edge, it is around 3 miles north of the fine Cathedral city of Lincoln, one of England's most beautiful historic cities.

Accommodation around Nettleham ranges from rural inns and hotels to self-catering cottages.
