About Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth

The tiny hamlet of Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth lies in spacious rural countryside in the valley of the River Witham. It is peaceful, pleasant place which somehow seems to have escaped the hand of time.

The hamlet is best known for Woolsthorpe Manor, home of the scientist, philosopher, alchemist and mathematician Sir Isaac Newton.

Woolsthorpe Manor is in the care of the National Trust. It is a typical limestone yeomen farmhouse of the 17th century, together with farm buildings. Here visitors can see a descent of the famous apple tree instrumental in Newton's discovery of gravity and learn of his childhood in the manor.

The hamlet lies equidistance from the larger town's of Melton Mowbray and Grantham. Both offer good shopping, hotels and historic buildings.
