About Thornton Hough

Thornton Hough is a picturesque village just 10 miles from the historic city of Liverpool, and 10 miles from historic Chester, and lies in an Area of Special Landscape Value, which is a protected region designated to preserve the character and appearence of the area.
The village has been described as a quintessential British village, with its center being its village green, which is surrounded by striking tudor-style cottages.

The village has an interesting history, pre-dating the Doomsday book which has it named as 'Torintone' , its more modern name was established during the reign of Edward II when the daughter of local landowner Roger de Thorneton, married Richard de Hoghe, and thus forming 'Thornton Hough'.

The village holds its own Scarecrow Festival, where villagers design and make scarecrows that are put out on display and judged at the end of a week long open season which attracts visitors from all over merseyside.
