About Giggleswick

Giggleswick, is as charming as its melodious name. It lies in a favoured position in the Ribbersdale Valley, a stones throw across the river from the lively market town of Settle. As with many dale and moorland villages, life here is centred around the ancient 12th-century church dedicated to St.Alkelda. This is a beautiful church which shows many treasures from an historic past. In the village there is a wonderful mix of sturdy stone cottages, many date from the 17th and 18th-century, a fact that is borne out by the date stones above picturesque small doorways. The famous Giggleswick school is clearly identified by its domed chapel, a dominant feature on the village skyline. The village has a few interesting shops and welcoming village inns where the visitor is able to find a tasty meal and a good pint of strong Yorkshire ale! A short distance away is the Yorkshire Dales Falconry Centre, that has daily demonstrations, eagle avaries and other rare birds. The glorious River Ribble meanders nearby and the Penine Way passes near to closeby Mallam.

This is a land of lofty windswept moors, ancient limestone hills, dales and deep plunging waterfalls. It has a loneliness, and a peace and tranquility, often hard to find in todays' turbulent world. Pretty Giggleswick makes an ideal base from which to explore all the splendours this ancient region has to offer.
