Unlike most museums, the Eden Camp Museum is a real living celebration of the nations war-time experiences. This is told through a series of huts, each dedicated to a different aspect of war-time history ranging from the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party through to the preparation of the country for war, to women at war, the end of the war and post war-time conflict.
This unique award winning museum is built around an original Prisoner of War Camp built in 1942. It dramatically reveals the despair and the triumphs of conflict, enables you to walk amongst aircraft and the machines of war, in-fact you are even exposed to the sounds, smells, thrills and spills of an unforgettable war-time experience.
On the site there is a Chapel of Remembrance, and for when it all gets too much and you feel the need of a little light relief, there is a hut devoted to a War-Time Music Hall.
This is a place where nothing of our islands war experiences has been missed, you can thrill to the daring deeds of the Dambusters, and almost cry at the joy and relief of V.E. Day and V.J. Day. There really is so much to see and do, all too much to be mentioned in one short article, you really should go there for yourself!
Malton is a pleasant Yorkshire market town which still holds a market and has plenty of shops to explore. It lies amidst beautiful countryside and is the nearest town to historic Castle Howard.
