About The Breamish Valley

See also: The Cheviot Hills
The beautiful Breamish Valley is the perfect location for discovering the majestic scenery of the Northumberland National Park. It is a sparsely populated region flowing towards the mighty Cheviots that is uncluttered even during the summer months. The beauty of the countryside is infinite, and within a few miles visitors can seek out ancient towns such as Alnwick, a sedate border town spread along the banks of the River Aln which has a castle and delightful old cobbled streets.

The area is renowned for its wildlife, venture towards Northumberland's beautiful coastline and you will find habitats, and sanctuaries for wildfowl and seabirds. The coast, apart from having glorious, almost white sandy beaches also has many reminders of the regions Celtic and Viking past.

This is a place for leisure and pleasure no matter what the season. Even in winter when the snow trickles there is the compensation of gazing over splendid scenery to see peaks capped with white snow. In spring the air carries a freshness and warmth encouraging new growth. Summer brings its own surprises and in autumn the changing colours of the valley countryside fill each day with magic. It is a wonderful place for feeling free, for walking leafy lanes and breathing deep of crystal clear air.

Close to Breamish Valley is the town of Ingram, here there is a visitor centre for The Northumberland National Park. This offers friendly advice on the best places to see, gives guided walks, and offers a year-round programme of outdoor activities to suit everyone. The centre also offers information on events in the region including musical festivals, agricultural shows and sheepdog trials. Sometimes, on the vast estates in the area there can be opportunities for shooting, fishing and deer stalking.
