About Wall

The village of Wall lies in the high uplands of Northumberland in spacious countryside bordered by the rivers South Tyne and North Tyne, close to Chester's Fort on historic Hadrian's Wall.

As one would imagine the village is often thronged with tourists, for here you can see one of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall as it runs close to the edge of the Northumberland National Park, towards Carrawburgh Temple of Mithras, and on towards Haltwhistle.

A focal point in the village is its outstanding Church dedicated to St.Michael. The church occupies a quiet position in a picturesque tree-lined churchyard where you can see interesting headstones and graves from past centuries.

This is a good touring centre, it is close to Hexham Abbey, Kielder Water, the Pennine Way, and in the distance lies the wild Northumberland coast.

Amenities in the area include a good range of shopping in nearby Hexham and pleasant local inns and restaurants. It is excellent walking country, with the past-times of fishing, golf and horse riding well catered for locally
