The Tolsey Museum can be found in the center of town at the ancient Burford crossroads, the main center of Burfords old market place. It was built in 1500AD and gets it's name 'Tolsey' because of the 'tolls' that traders paid to use it's market fascillities. It was also the seat of the Borough Court. Today it is a museum that holds many of Burford's artifacts including the lock-up or "Blind House" door, and the maces which it was first set up to house. Inside the museum you will also find many old photographs of Burford throughout the ages, local tapestry's done by Burford children many years ago, Roman artifacts found locally, and many many more interesting things to do with the town. Well worth a visit, and a must visit if you are staying in Burford.
