About Leebotwood

Charming village, lying north of Church Stretton within the shadow of the Long Mynd. It is a village with picturesque 17th century half-timbered houses, none more attractive than the thatched Pound Inn, the oldest house in the village, as indicated by an outside beam bearing the date 1650. The inn is a warmly welcoming place with a comfortable interior displaying pleasing watercolours, horse brasses and quality furniture.

Visitors to the village note the 13th century church standing on a wooded rise to the west of the village. This is an attractive church building with much of interest from its long historic past, particularly of note are the finely carved box-pews from the 17th century.

Castle Hill, which lies to the north-west of the church is a prominent 260 foot mound, this was quite likely an early Saxon fortification built above a pre-historic barrow. The hill makes an excellent viewpoint from which to gaze out over the spacious Shropshire landscape.
