Bath Abbey is a beautiful building. The building is sited on the remains of a Norman Cathedral which itself replaced an 8th century Saxon Abbey. The present building is still very old, being built in 1499 by Oliver King the Bishop of Bath. He had a dream. In his dream he saw angels climbing up and down from heaven and a voice urged "a king to restore the church". He took this to mean that he should restore the abbey. These angels can be seen on the west front of the abbey. The abbey fell into dissuse after the dissolution of the monastries when it was badly damaged, but during the 1600's it was restored to it's former splendour by Bishop Montague whose tomb can be found inside the abbey, in the nave, together with a monument to Beau Nash - the cities former master of ceremonies. The interior of the abbey is notable for its soaring traceries of fan-vaulting and for its hundreds of memorial tablets lining its walls. Please enjoy the pictures of Bath Abbey.
