About Bleadon

This pretty village lies in a lee of the Bleadon Hills, a short distance away from the sandy beaches of Weston-Super-Mare. It was mentioned in the Doomsday book and has an historic church standing on a spot where it is believed an earlier Saxon church once stood, but nothing remains of this save for the stone figure of a little angel set high in the arch of the north wall. The church is dedicated to St.Peter and St.Paul, it has a superb clock-face tower, and sits securely in a picturesque churchyard surrounded by the graves and tombs of centuries.

Bleadon has several attractive stone cottages, some dating back to the 16th-century. Visitors will also note the two village pubs, both retain a wealth of original features and offer a warm welcome in a friendly atmosphere. There are a few small shops in the region, but for the wider shopping experience you need to head for Weston-Super-Mare.

Visitors can enjoy pleasant walks in lovely rural countryside, with good views toward the coast and the hill-top of Brent Knoll which lies just a few miles south of Bleadon. At nearby Berrow there is golf and a nature reserve. Another nature reserve can be found on a spit of land jutting out between Brean and Weston-Super-Mare.

There are plenty of places to stay in the area, for families there is a good choice of caravan parks particularly along the coast road of Berrow and Brean.
