About Cheadle

Cheadle has several fine black and white half timbered buildings in the town that date from the 16th-century. It also has an interesting 17th-century cross in the market place and there are other buildings of note to be found in the town and surrounding countryside. It is though, the great Roman Catholic Church that drawers many people to Cheadle.

St.Giles's Church was designed by Pugin in 1846. It is Gothic in design with a richly decorated interior. It is a church that was built without any thought to expense. It has a magical atmosphere and is a constant source of fascination. The exterior is crowned by a 200ft steeple which can be seen for miles around. Interestingly, Pugin was one of the architects that worked on the Houses of Parliament.

Other local places of interest are a nature reserve at nearby Hazles, and Foxfield light railway is but a few short miles away.
