I would suggest that you try to tighten your focus a bit, choose one flower and see it is really in focus, instead of them all being just slightly out of focus. It looks to me (and I might be wrong) that your focus is ever so slightly behind the flowers, because I can see those fine grass seeds just right of the flowers, in perfect focus
Again darren you seem to be too close for the camera's autofocus. Check the manual it will tell you somewher in there what the closest focus distance is. Focus point here seems to me to be were the flowers come from the main stem. Keep at it and you will soon get the hang of the limitations. All lenses have a minimum focus distance even those costing £5-6000, its just a case of knowing what it is....
