Name: Dave John Country: England Joined: 27th February 2011 |
Age 63 born and bred Hull (for my sins!!)
Best thing about Hull ??? the A63 westbound it leads to the Lake District!!!
Been into photography for about 40 years on and off
Still think photography and looking for pictures / ideas all the time
Started with Praktica L & Zorki 4, followed by a couple of Olympus OM1’s then gradually working through Various Canon’s AE1, AT1 etc finally ending up with 2 F1’s which served many good years of hard use. Pretty much earned their keep for a few years One still in fine form, the other not quite so good as a careless thumb damaged the shutter curtain during a rapid film change in a forest at midnight!!!! Hasselblad 500C for a couple of year until a friend ‘made an offer I could not refuse’
Spent many years following the British Rally Championship around the country and a couple of very enjoyable and lucrative years tied in with a local model agency
Met the wife late 80’s and inherited 2 lovely stepdaughters (4 grandchildren now!!!) and suddenly money was a bit scarce for film, chemicals etc, but still kept my hand and eye in during holidays and days out etc
Mid Noughties took the plunge into digital with Fujifilm s3000, now in the hands of a very grateful nephew. Followed that with Olympus E410 and now finally back with Canon, EOS500d with Sigma 10-20, 17-70 & 70-300 plus the usual odds and ends. 2014 added a Canon 5D II with Sigma 12-24, 24-70, 70-200 to the arsenal
Used to get a twinge that digital is not REAL photography but not anymore, at the end of the day it is progress and I enjoy processing the files on the computer, much more comfortable and no smells, but all in all I just love taking pictures irrespective of camera.
Point & shoot or SLR, it’s the initial vision that counts and how your eye interprets that vision.
Favourite place Ambleside, with Rannoch Moor close second, anywhere in Cornwall equally close third
Favourite photographers Don McCullin, Eamonn McCabe, and Terence Donovan alas sadly no longer with us
