Stafford's handsome Shire Hall Gallery with its impressive porticoed frontage, served for a time as the local Crown Court. Today, the building is preserved as Grade II listed and provides the town with a wonderful backdrop for displays of art and crafts. Thus, visitors are able to wander historic rooms where the old mingles with the new.
At most times of the year there are dazzling displays of paintings, some by Staffordshire artists, drawings and prints. Many cover subjects relating to the old Staffordshire landscape, heightening the sense of the historic atmosphere pervading the building. There are displays of contemporary works including jewellery from the 20th and 21st century.
The Shire Hall Gallery can be found in the Market Square, Stafford - Admission is free.
