Minsmere Nature Reserve offers a unique opportunity to enjoy an abundance of Mother Nature's rich bounties. It encompasses a vast area of countryside habitation for birds of many species, and since its inception some 50 years ago has become one of the RSPB's most popular nature reserves.
There are wetlands to explore for waterfowl, in winter these are visited by many wading birds, black-tailed godwits, widgeons, Berwick swan's and teals. In spring and summer there are avocets, bitterns and marsh harriers. The afore-mentioned being just a few of the birds flying through the soft pink-tinged Suffolk skies to reach the sanctuary of the reserve.
Minsmere occupies a lovely landscape, visitors can take advantage of paths and trails leading through lovely countryside to dunes and beaches. En-route there are many pleasant experiences, delightful woodland with rich leafy carpets and wild flowers, and heathland with a wealth of rare plantation.
There is an informative visitor centre with special "explorer" packs loaned for children for the duration of your visit, a shop for souvenirs, and for comfort and convenience there is a pleasant tea-room.
Minsmere hosts several special events, springtime events are particularly lovely for often the air is filled with birdsong from nightingales, nightjar and various other warblers.
Minsmere Nature Reserve can be found between Westleton and Saxmundham, it lies close to the Suffolk Heritage Coast in an area full of beauty and many other interesting tourist attractions.
