About Long Compton

Long Compton is a small picturesque village in southern Warwickshire close with the border of Oxfordshire and on the edge of the Cotswolds, just 5 miles north of the wonderful Cotswold town of Chipping Norton.

It sits at the bottom of a valley where the main route between Oxford and Stratford upon Avon passes through, and it has some wonderful attractions such as the famous Rollright Stones - a Bronze age megalithic monument within walking distance of the village, and in the village itself is the wonderful Long Compton Lych Gate standing at the entrance to the 13th century church - the parish church of St Peter and St Paul. The Lych gate, with its thatched roof, dates to the 17th century and was once part of a row of old cottages that were demolished, it was eventually given to the church and having the ground floor removed to create the eye-catching entrance it is today.

The village has a pub, the Red Lion Inn, which is a former coaching in dating from around 1748 and is a Grade II listed building.
