how to get to Bratton Camp

The answer to your question could you make it to Westbury, Bratton from London for a day by train is a definite yes! Early start, late finish but doable for sure! The only other way to get there might be our so-called National Express bus service, but that will take much longer in journey times (if indeed there is a route offered) and frankly is not recommended by me for a day return.

You will need to arrange the trains to your advantage; meaning that you should ask when you buy your tickets, because sometimes there will be a 'slow' train and also a 'fast' train service to the same area (I don't know if the same applies to Westbury, Bratton) so worth asking about.

Hi Jennifer, Westbury (Wilts) is on the London (Paddington) to Penzance main line, and as Ron says, it can be a quick journey if you choose the right train. The shortest journey time is about 1hour 20 mins from London to Westbury, so it is perfectly feasible to visit on a day trip from London. Train times can be found on the National Rail Website It is worth mentioning that pre-booking your train tickets can save money.

The nearby White Horse is a few miles outside Westbury, and would be difficult to get to without a car, so it may be necessary to use a local taxi if you wished to visit it. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Thank you so much for your replies.  Whilst there last summer I did get to see the Great White Horse from the bus on my Day trip tour to Stonehenge and Bath, but I didn’t know at the time it was the town of Bratton.  But before I come out for the day with the kids, how do I find out how close our relationship is to the founding Bratton’s?  I am trying to get more information from my father and his sister but all I know so far is that they were ALL John (Jack) Bruce Bratton’s as far back as they know.  My grandmothers family was from a town close by and is supposedly to be of note, I am trying to get that information as well.  When my father came to Bratton Village about a decade ago (he didn’t know his geology and ties either) was told you all get “a lot of Bratton’s thru the Village”.  Is there a simple way to check and see how closely related we maybe?  I don’t want to embarrass myself.  J
