Houses on Abbot's Walk, Reading

These imposing Grade II Listed houses (circa 1840), now converted into apartments, are adjacent to the Abbey Ruins and overlook the Forbury Gardens.

They are in a nice position next to the Abbey. I bet they were very grand in their day, I also suspect they are very expensive apartments now.

Excellent Edward, I like the buildings of different eras side by side. One thought, is the Abbey haunted and do the new building get visitations?

Vince, thank you for the comment. I haven't heard of any reports of hauntings in the vicinity, although many ghastly deeds have been done in the area, perhaps the most notable being the martyrdom in 1539 of the last Abbot of Reading, the Blessed Hugh Faringdon. He had fallen out of favour with King Henry VIII, and also fell foul of Thomas Cromwell. After imprisonment in the Tower of London, he was taken back to Reading, to be hung, drawn and quartered outside the Abbey Gate. Also suffering this dreadful fate were his associates John Eynon and John Rugg.
