Fishing at Reading circa 1964

A Grand day out. Down to Reading from London on the train, it was still steam in those days. On to the Trolley bus to Scours lane and then a short walk to the river, which is where the photo was taken. Fish all day then off to the Roebuck for Lemonade and Crisps. Then back on the train home.

Nice picture from gentler times. The town of Reading has changed out of all recognition since that picture was taken, but the riverbank has stayed the same.

I have just repeated your journey from Scours Lane to the Roebuck. The Roebuck is now closed but the footbridge across the railway fom the river up to the Roebuck is still there.
