The Groyne
The Groyne Lighthouse stands on Herd Groyne Pier on the South side of the mouth of the River Tyne and helps guide the ships in and out of the river. The pier was built in the late 1800’s to help stop the Littlehaven beach being swept into the river by the incoming tide.
