A picture of Darwen

The entrance to the Sough Tunnel, Darwen, Lancashire, which at 2,015 yards in length, was one of the great engineering achievements in the construction of the railways around Darwen,(opened in 1848), & indeed Great Britain.

designed by Terrance Flanagan resident engineer and architect on the Blackburn Bolton line, also designed Blackburn market hall and went on to work in Antwerp and Lisbon, Portugal.
