About Southerndown

The village of Southerndown is set back from the dramatic dry-stone cliffs surrounding Dunraven Bay, these are mostly formed by alternate layers of limestone and shale, which give the cliffs their unusually regular pattern. The pleasant village features quiet streets lined with grey limestone cottages.

This is a picturesque part of South Wales, with wonderful views from paths perched above glorious sandy beaches towards the off-shore rock formation of Tusker Rock. Inland, visitors will find pleasant walks to nearby local villages including St.Brides Major and Ogmore-by-the-Sea.

It is the rocks which define this part of the South Wales coastline, splintered and treacherous they may be, but nonetheless they afford the visitor wonderful views across the Bristol Channel.

Visitors to Southerndown will find a useful information centre at Dunraven Park, this is sited in what was the former laundry at Dunraven Castle. The centre has areas for displays, exhibitions, and a shop.
