Would anyone happen to know anything about an Anthony Garrnett whose son Thomas left for Jamestown VA in 1610? He was my many-greats grandfather. I know all about the family after they came to the states but can't find much about him before he left. I know his father owned a building called Cstle Dairy which was prettty large. So why did Thomas have to get to the new world as an indentured servant? Seems curious to me. I would bet there was a story there.

I read about it on the web - it is fascinating! I see there has been some sites set up following enquiries from some of the descendants. I have no links to the name and don't know but good luck with your research - think it would make a good base story for a book when you find out more!

Thomas was the first man imprisoned in the stocks in the new world for calling his lord and master a drunkard and a gambler. It was true of course but he wasn't supposed to say it. Maybe the town of Kendall would be proud of him or then again maybe not!
