Hi James.

I presume you mean Llandilo in South Wales and not Llandilo in New South Wales Australia, lol

Any idea where and when he was born?  Or do you mean 1835 is his birthdate?  Nah you can't mean that if he was a blacksmith in 1835! lol

Are you sure it is Stevens and not Stephens?

In 1841 there were only two David Stephen one age 2 and one age 9 in Llandilo.  The 2 year old's father was a smith by the name of Stephen Stephen.

Looks like you need the Cavalry - Hey Paul where are you??  LOLLaughing

I've only found two chaps named David Steven in Llandilo around this time; neither blacksmiths. But, there's no shortage of David Stevens in South Wales so I think we need to know some more about him---any other locations, persons, or dates associated with him?

And judging by James' last comments, that doesn't seem too likely?

Trying to go backwards with this I tried 1851 census using blacksmith as an occupation.  Only hit was a David Stevenson who was from Scotland and living in Lancashire.  Didn't find him in 1841 though.

Well, I have the 1841 Census for Llandilo, and if he's there, we'll find him. Not living at The Forge though, but there is a lot of residences to check if he's in any of them.

According to the Directory of 1835 there are 4 blacksmiths in Llandilo-Fawr

David Francis, David Rees, Stephen Stephens, Evan Thomas.  There are no other Stephens/Stevens mentioned in the lists for Llandilo-Fawr.
