Hi, I have recently purchased the book Leonard Weeks of Greenland, New Hampshire.  Leonard Weeks was baptized 7 Aug 1639 Compton Martin. No birth found so far. Parents were John and Anne Wyke of Moreton and there is nothing about them.  Noone can even find when Leonard  immigrated to US.  There are some probate records found in Wells, England and found that all the wills from 1626 to 1660 are missing removed (not sure what this means).  There is a burial in Compton Martin, Somerset for a Margaret Ardin a servant of Leonard Weeke in 1605.  They say this Leonard may be Leonard Weeks' grandfather.  There is a Weeks Manor which is now (I thought) a school or place for boys??  I have seen pics of the manor from another book of the Weeks.  Does anyone know of any records of this family still around.  Is there a Weeks Manor?  Would appreciate any help.  Thank you.    GariLu

PS  I have all the genealogy from Leonard to my father.

Hi GariLu and welcome too; As you seem to have been doing your family history for over a decade now, and there's quite a bit around about Leonard Weeks with NH records, and the book you bought, it's hard to think what else I might add ?   His mother's name I think was Agnes Ann Wicks;

I think the very early origins of the family might lead back to William de Wyk, of North Wyke, Axminster, Devon in the early 1200s before the scene switches to Somerset. John Wyke b. 1360 who married Katherine Bonville could be a good starting point.

Do records still exist?   Probably, at either our National Archives in West London, or the county archives of Somerset and/or Devon.

I'd also keep in mind a bit north of Somerset in Gloucestershire, Thomas Wykes (1380-1472) who married Jane Chedder; he might be part of the same family.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the info.  I have copied some pages from another book called, "Descendents of Samuel Weeks of Danville, Vt", by Ernest Weeks.  He does mention the family connecting to Thomas Wykes in Gloucestershire.  But it is a bit confusing.  I think I will also look at William de Wyke, of North Wyke and John Wyke.  Even though I found a website called the worldwykesweb it has a pedigree from Leonard down to Thomas Wyke and wife Jane Cheddar but there is no source and no proof of any of the connections.  Leonard's father is said to be Johny Wyke b. ca 1598 Chew Magna and mother was Anne or Agness (you said) Wicks.  It is going to be a long research I think.

Also, I made a mistake about there being a Weeks Manor.  It is called Wicks Court, a children's farm now.  This is the Thomas Wyke line.  I thank you again for helping me.  From the first book it said little info was found for John and family.  (Leonard;s Father)  I will keep at it.

GariLu Smile

The lines going to either Thomas/Gloucs. or Wliiam/North Wykes occurs quite some time backwards and hard to tell which one is correct when they seperate.

I should have more clearly said then that Agness Anne Wick does seem to be the usual name given for his mother.
