Johns recommend pub site is a great start and worth reading. The rule of thumb with pubs is if you dont feel comfortable in one move to another. I wouldnt go into a strange pub in the center of a town or city on my own, even though i'm male. The easiest places are olde worlde type pubs you find in villages etc. The locals are usualy warm and friendly and will chat openly to you.Be yourself, and not too loud, the people of Britain dont usualy take to someone loud or boastful. Try not to stand out by wearing outlandish dresswear. order your drink at the bar and take it to a vacant table. If you are alone (and male) stand at the bar. Avoide anybody thats 'loud' but be polite. You may offer to buy someone them a drink or they may offer to buy you one. Accept, its polite but if they are strangers be prepared for anything. if they have bought you a drink, offer to buy them one back before you leave. Its a good idea to 'tip' the barman when buying your first drink, you do this as you order your drink by saying..and take one for yourself!. He will probly just put a few pence in the till, he wont rip you off but if it gets busy and you go back to the bar for another drink he'll remember you and serve you proptly.  When you go to the bar its polite to wait your turn behind others already waiting there or attract the barmans attention.Theres no need to stand in-line.  You are not expected to leave a tip when you leave the table in a pub.

Well, I haven't beem checking this thread lately and am very surprised that it reached 19 pages already!

Some of you even are planning to go into business together and open a pub. Will I have a free drink for being the starter of it all?

Greetings
