I am travelling to England next week and am going to spend 7 days in Chipping Sodbury.  I can trace some of my family to Gloucester and some to Bristol, is there anything that is a must see when I visit these two spots???  Thank you,

Wanda

Hi Wanda, not my part of the countyr I'm afraid, but I have been there a couple of times. Try clicking on 'Towns' or 'Counties' in the left hand colum and follow the links. That is the cotswold region and Bath so theres lots to see. If you dont find Chipping Sodbury look at the other cotswold towns and villages (Except Chipping which is Northern and my part of the country lol). good luck and have a good visit.

Hi Wanda, Gloucester is a lovely city - there is Gloucester Antiques Centre which is one of the largest in the UK if you like that sort of thing. It is a very interesting place. Bristol in my opinion is not very picturesque although it does have some great bridges in and around the city and a big shopping centre if you enjoy shopping. Around those areas it is worth a visit to Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust and if you want to see an English seaside resort Weston-Super-Mare isn't far away. Bath is also supposed to be a great city to visit although I have only ever driven through.

Have a great time.

Hi Wanda

I live in the north of Gloucestershire so know the area pretty well.  I'm not a great fan of cities but Bristol is an attractive place.  I was there yesterday for the first time in ages.  The harbour area is a pleasant place to spend an hour or two. The SS Great Britain is the star of the show.  http://www.ssgreatbritain.org/Home.aspx

Gloucester has gone through a lot of "upgrading" recently (gawd knows it needed it!!) and the docks area now has a lot of new shops and restaurants.

In between there are lots of pretty villages and rolling hills. If you take some of the smaller roads instead of the M5, you will find some little gems!

Slimbridge http://www.wwt.org.uk/centre/122/slimbridge.html

Berkeley Castle http://www.berkeley-castle.com/index.php

Westonbirt Arboretum (very close to Prince Charles' country estate) http://www.forestry.gov.uk/westonbirt

If you travel a few miles further up from Gloucester you will find the (far better IMO Embarassed) town of Cheltenham http://www.visitcheltenham.com/site/index.php

and the beautiful little town where I live http://www.tewkesbury.cotswolds.info/

Hope you have good time. If you have any questions, give me a shout!! Cool

Yeah, Cheddar gorge and Wookey hole worth a visit, a little bit of a drive from Bristol, but worth it i think!

Brean sands, is a pretty typical seaside i think!! bit tacky in places, but brean down, right at the end is worth a walk up onto, its lovely!!

Glouscester, again a little drive but, Malvern hills are nice, a little bit further, Symonds yat.
