I am no expert on golf but I found out the following information. There are nine courses in the current rota, five in Scotland and four in England. Courses in Scotland: Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links, Muirfield, The Turnberry Resort and Royal Troon Golf Club. Courses in England: Royal St George's Golf Club, Kent, Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Northwest England, Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club also in Northwest England and Royal Liverpool Golf Club known as Hoylake.

We visited England countryside for 10 days and 5 days in London in May 2008. Fantastic times in pubs and B&Bs. You have answered my questions. I wonder why The Open is only played on coastal courses. Aren't there any great inland courses in England and Scotland? The U.S. Open is held on a great variety of course throughout the country and they each have different golfing challenges. As I write this, I am watching Tom Watson playing Turnberry on Saturday. "Go, Tooom!" |

It is a good question - I hope one of our forum members who visit in the week might know more about it than me. Edited by: Stephanie Jackson at:19th July 2009 08:24 |
