I am planning a trip next year to England and will be ending in Edinburgh, but will have to drive back to airport. How lond does it take to drive from Edinburgh back to Heathrow?

At this moment, the sat nav is showing a distance of 402 miles and driving time of 6 hours, 38 mins. I'd allow longer for any holdups, especially on the M25, along the way. If I were driving to Scotland today, I'd do it over night.

I absolutely agree with Paul, Ellen. Remember, dear friend driving 400 miles here is not like driving 400 miles in the USA!

Oh by the way the following link will get you to the POE hotels page for your accommodation: http://www.picturesofengland.com/hotels/

Ellen if you are hiring a car, can you not arrange for it to be left in Edinburgh at one of their branches and return either by air to Heathrow or to London on the train.  There was an express train service taking about 3 hours at one time (The Flying Scotsman) not sure if it still runs?  I'm sure someone on site will be able to tell you more (or maybe google the train services Edinburgh to London)

Thanks everyone!

You are so much help. The train back sounds like a great way to relax after a long trip. I hope it is still running. Or we will take two days for our return trip.

Why not arrange to leave the car at Edinburgh airport and fly from there to heathrow? it would only take a couple of hours if that, cost about the same as the train, no traffic risks and you wont need to pay the added expence of getting to the airport from LondonWink
