Can any one tell me the history of the horse on the side of a hill in Wiltshire?

Ellen: There are 8 visible chalk white horses in Wiltshire. The best known of these is the Westbury White Horse.

Thanks for responding Rob! That is exactly what I mean. Do you have any history of who is responsible or the age? I will visit Wiltshire next year and would like to see them along with Stonehenge. Are they close to each other?

Love your pic. There is nothing more beautiful than a sleeping child. (in more ways then one. lol)

You can read about them here Ellen; the one near Cherhill not too far from me and I don't think that old.

And while you are visiting the White Horse and Stonehenge, you must go to Avebury and Silbury Hill, all in the same general area. Averbury has a GREAT gift shop  .

And the one at Cherhill is only about a 10 minute drive west of Avebury along the A4.

You mean to say Cathy you saw Silbury Hill, the stones at Avebury, race horses on the gallops nearby, the White Horse at Cherhill, but not the gift shop?  Your tour guide better be on the ball next time if you ask me.
