We used to buy Orange and/or Blackcurrant juice on in there (no alcohol in those days) and nipped down to the 'Grapes' in George Street before the night was out. Ha, remember it well! Wasn't Brew 11 around then, phoarrh that was a strong un too! Don't remember anything else in George Street, but the Forum was local. Does that mean you live in Oxford Brian? Anna and I live in Wheatley having been born locally also. |

Brian Leahy Posts: 7 Joined: 17th Jan 2013 Location: England | quotePosted at 09:48 on 21st January 2013 I lived in Oxford in Hythe Bridge Street from about 1944 when my sister and I were reclaimed as it were from Kingston Blount where had been evacuated to from London. I left Oxford when I got married and now live the other side of Abingdon. I remember the Cadena Café and the wonderful smell of fresh coffee when ordinary folk only drank Camp Coffee. I’m in the process of writing a few words on that period for my grandchildren to read if there ever interested but there are lots of bits and pieces I’ve forgotten after sixty years or so and I will probably be back a few times with more questions. |
