Water's a pretty precious commodity here too, Wolf.  We're having a pretty good year rain-wise, though this year.  We're about an inch to the good from where we should be right now.

Drought continues for South Australia. Photo / AP

Australian farmers began meeting this week to discuss the impact of climate change on their future as fears grew of a looming conflict between parched towns and agriculture.

Emergency measures are already being put in place to ensure there is enough drinking water for the South Australian capital of Adelaide and other towns along the stricken Murray River, whose flows have reached record lows.

But ensuring water for more than one million people is likely to come at the cost of irrigators, especially in the lower reaches of the river where crucial lakes are facing imminent, and permanent, damage from salinity and acidification.

Under present forecasts and national policies, the Murray Darling Basin Commission believes that for the next 12 months there will be enough water for towns and livestock along the main course of the river.

But elsewhere in the basin the crisis is growing.

And for us in Nevada too Ruth and Wolf.

For some reason they think they want to divert some of our Northern Nevada water to Las Vegas, as they've built that town so large it can't support itself. Like we have enough ourselves  .

Hi Sue:  Same here with the Colorado River.  There are at least 6 dams, including Glen Cyn and Hoover and each has a huge reservoir behind it that Arizona and California are always fighting over.  By the time the river reaches its mouth in Old Mexico, it's only a muddy trickle.
