I went to Lancaster Castle a couple of weeks ago.  I know it's a prison, but it also holds court as well.  Anyways, we could go and have a look round this day and it was fantastic.  They showed us the court rooms, (which are still used) and the old dungeons, as well as other things.  The last famous people up in court there were The Birmingham Six, and another one was The Pendle Witches.  Well worth a visit.

You could always come and visit the museum where I work at in Millom, you would be very welcome.Laughing

The Bowes Museum near Barnard Castle in County Durham is one of my all-time favorites. Not only are the collections wonderful, but it is worth the trip just to watch the curators wind up their life-sized 18th century silver swan automaton and marvel at its life-like movements. Here is the direct website that presents information on the swan: http://www.thebowesmuseum.org.uk/the-silver-swan/history/

Enjoy!

Rob

RE: Bowes Museum--Also, the ruins of nearby Barnard Castle are certainly worth a visit. Here's the English Heritage website for the castle: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server.php?show=nav.12917

Hi Karen, I'm well studied in the Pendle witch case and unfortunatly one of my ancestors was involved on the judicial prosecution side. I was also brought up 3 or 4 miles from the 'crime scene'.

For visitors in London, a trip to South Kensington Underground station, thence a short distance away, are the Victoria & Albert museum, the Science museum, the Geological museum, and Natural History museum. World class museums by anyone's standards with lots of interesting things to see.
