Another British landmark gone. Sad very sad. Locals recently started to raise funds to restore the old pier, but I afraid that it is forever lost. We visited this pier in 2008. You could only enter a small part, the rest was unstable, but it was filled with history. I love this kind of Victorian sea resort buildings but more and more they are disappearing; the piers, the pools the amusement halls. Luckily we can find some photo’s of the old pier here on POE. I agree with CathyE, it's sad that some people just do not care about destroying property, buildings, things. And it is a terrible thought that another landmark will be gone forever...except in pictures and/or memories. |
