My granddad was 110 years old when he died. Survived working down the coal mines and 2 world wars. had his last cigarete just before he died. was it the smoking that killed him?

My grandpa worked in the coal mines, too, Peter.

For a short while I worked down the Jam Butty Mines in Knotty Ash, with the Diddy men.

But they ran out of jam supply from Strawberry Fields. Laughing

Wow, where is Sherlock Holmes when you need him?  LOL.  Or better yet, Lyn, my OZ interpreter.  Smile

OK, Wolf.  I'm guessing that Jam Butty is the name of the mine or the town the mine's in.   No wait, Knotty Ash must be the town, right?  As for Diddy men, ????  You know my Oz isn't that good, Wolf.

Butty is a Welsh word I learned from Peter.  So the mine may have been named for one in Wales???

Dear Ruth the lingo is all Liverpudlian. Knotty Ash is a real place, jam butty is a Jam sandwich,(bread & butter) and the Diddy men were a made up tale by popular English comedian Ken Dodd. Of course you know what and where Strawberry Fields are.

I just read this one for the first time ever and I am not sure if it's a quote or part of a poem but I thought it was beautiful just the same:

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. George Elliot

Autumn soon to be with you my friends, as we turn to Spring.

AN AUTUMN WALK.

Could this little old road be luring me now
Deep into autumn's fold;
Through the glorious light of the noonday sun
That illumines the trees of gold?

Through the vista that wanders and curves its way
Along the dreaming hill;
Through a radiant wood of leaves and boughs
That ring with the warblers' trill?

Could this little old road be enticing me now
Through the Indian summer heat,
Where the meadows are spawling with flowers and grass,
And the orchard is mellow-sweet?

Where the faraway hill stirs and glistens anew
In the beautiful autumn glow?
Could this little old road be beckoning now--
My heart is eager and I must go!

I can't wait for Autumn. I love the crisp air, the colored trees and the deep blue sky. It makes me feel alive!
